Major events organised

Session 2022-23

The session 2022-23 has been quite an event full for the department. From the introduction  of NEP2020/UGCF2022 to 11 permanent appointments to the various activities of the Anant  Mathematics Society.

One Day National Workshop On Vedic Mathematics was organized by the Department of  Mathematics, P.G.D.A.V. College (M) in collaboration with Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas on  30th August 2022. Eminent speakers from S.S.U.N. like Dr. Rakesh Bhatia, Dr. Anil Thakur and Dr. Deepak Vashishtha delivered very interactive sessions. The workshop was organized on  this useful and interesting topic at the time when Vedic Mathematics has become a part of  the NEP syllabus. Teachers were trained and motivated for the forthcoming Vedic  Mathematics VAC paper under UGCF 22/NEP 20.

The internal Study Forum of the department had its regular monthly meetings where  faculty members had good discussions on the topics delivered by colleagues.

The 1st year batch of new students admitted under UGCF 22/NEP 20, started with a  Departmental Orientation in Nov 2023. It was a pretty lively and interactive session of about  one and a half hours. It had been a very informative needed session for the students.

The department conducted interviews on the 12th of Jan, 2023 for the post of office  bearers in the Anant Mathematics Society. New leadership started off by organizing a  freshers’ welcome function, on the 16th of Jan,23, involving interesting activities related to  mathematics and Cheers to another rousing batch of the department of mathematics!

In this session, a long pending demand for regularization of the posts in the department  materialized with the 11 permanent appointments.

To foster and strengthen the college–alumni bond, the department organized its first alumni  meet, Comfluence2023. In the meet former and current students interacted. Some of the  alumni were quite well established, by sharing their stories and perspectives, they inspired and guided the students who are following in their footsteps. They all came away from this  experience, with new insights, new ideas, and new connections that will serve them well in  the years to come.

On the 13th of April the Anant Mathematics Society, organized its annual Inter-College  mathematics fest, Spectrum2023, where we celebrated the spirit of learning and creativity.  The event consists of a series of fascinating mathematics games. These maths-based games  challenged the student's problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and creativity. And the  best part about these Games was that it's not just about competition; they were also about  collaboration and learning. Where they were encouraged to team up with their friends.

Department also organized counselling session for students of the college. The session was  regarding JAM, the IIT entrance exams. Speakers shared their wisdom and expertise with  students, practical tips and strategies that students can use to prepare for these exams,  including how to manage their time effectively, the importance of practice tests, and how to  stay motivated throughout the process.

Lastly, we bid farewell to our final-year students who were to embark on new journeys in  their lives. It was a bittersweet moment as we say goodbye to these bright minds who have  contributed so much to our college community, but we are also excited to see what the  future holds for them.
