About the society

Ecolibrium, the academic and cultural society of the Department of Economics,  is a team of dedicated students and teachers who work towards creating an intellectual and inclusive space for discussions around many economic issues and events. It regularly organises academic seminars around contemporary economic issues and, in the past, had invited prominent economists like Prof Rathin Roy, Prof Pinaki Chakraborty, Dr T Haque, Dr Chinmay Tumbe, and Prof Sudipta Sarangi to lecture on current economic themes and also share their work and vision. It also organises events like Mock Niti Aayog, paper presentations, quizzes, career counselling, annual festival. The Economics Society also publishes a bi-annual newsletter, 'The Ecolibrium'. The newsletter in the past covered a range of topics across the economic and political spectrum, including farmers' issues, global trade war, universal health care, artificial intelligence, behavioural economics, Covid-19 etc.
